Eco-friendly furniture is everywhere these days, but there’s something about this collection that caught my eye. These pieces come from Snake Island Furniture, a relatively new company that is committed to reclaiming, reusing, and re-envisioning distinctive pieces of wood harvested from Toronto’s windfall and deadfall.  This rescued wood is turned into unique pieces like the one you see here. Adhering to its own “Do Only Good” slogan, Snake Island Furniture cuts no new wood and even plants a tree for every piece of furniture they sell.  That’s a sum gain for the earth, and a company that deserves a look from each of us. I love the flexibility of modular furniture, and lately it seems to be everywhere.  Benn Grimm is a modular furniture collection designed by Luca Nichetto. With Benn Grimm, you can adapt your furniture to best serve your current room set up and atmosphere. High density cushions make the Benn Grimm comfortable too. If only I had one here in my office…

Natalie Kruch takes on the true meaning of creativity with the Balloona Stool. This stool is made from over 500 balloons wrapped around and tied to a solid wood stool. How’s that for creativity?  I’m sure the balloons will undergo some wear and tear, but at a fairly reasonable $200 this is certainly a piece you can feel confident you aren’t going to see in every house on the block.

What’s so special about this chair? Well besides its sleek stiletto-like back, the Welcome Chair actually conforms to your unique bum.

The Welcome Chair has a molded aluminum frame, which holds a stretchable fabric across the seating surface. The fabric gives way to the weight and shape of the person sitting on it, offering maximum comfort without the need for upholstery. Interesting, and designed by Abhijeet Kumar.

I’m still making up my mind about Etsy. There is a lot of great stuff on there, but there’s also some not so great stuff too.  Either way, it’s there and it’s an interesting resource for many things you might not find anywhere else. That being said, I came across some pretty interesting pillows on Etsy today. 

Whether you want to further show off your love of van der Rohe, Eames, and Panton or this is the closest you can afford to the real thing, these pillows offer a cool tribute to some well-known mid-century classics. Check out this collection of pillows here.

This one is for the graphic designers.  The Pixel Effect is a collection of furniture created as collaboration between Cristian Zuzunaga and Cristophe Delcourt. This furniture is dressed in pixelated fabric that actually started as a picture of an urban landscape in Shanghai. This gets an A for creativity in my book, though I’m not sure how practical its look is in the larger pieces like the sofa. I think the chairs could make great accents in a modern space, though.
