Subjects

I was happy to get an email invite to the Niels Van Eijk & Miriam Van der Lubbe Subjects exhibit at the Dutch Textiles Museum Tilburg. It opened this past weekend, and while I would have loved to have gone I’m stuck on the other side of the world. I thought the least I could do is share with you some of Van Eijk & Van der Lubbe’s most interesting works (in my opinion). So, here it is!

Niels Van Eijk & Miriam Van der Lubbe - Half Bench

Half a Table, 2003

Niels Van Eijk & Miriam Van der Lubbe - Bench

Bibu Bench, 2008

Niels Van Eijk & Miriam Van der Lubbe - Divine Comedy

La Divina Commedia, 2008

And one of my previously mentioned favorites here.

I highly recommend you take a moment to visit the website of these two innovative designers as well. See it here.

Marcus Tremento

Marcus Tremento Lighting

I love innovative lighting, and this new design from Marcus Tremento is exactly that.  This lighting seams to float above, looking natural and modern at the same time. Paper Landscapes is just one example of Tremento’s amazing work. Check out his website here.

This brilliant lighting is currently on display as part of the Between Lines exhibit at the Framziska Kessler Gallery in Zurich.  If I was closer, I would defiantly be there.  If you can get there, you have until Aug 30 – this is one not to miss.  More about the exhibit here.

Forget Solar Panels

Solar Table

and get a Solar Table! This is more than your ordinary table, this table has the potential to revolutionize the way energy is stored and produced. The top is covered with cells that collect solar energy all year, feeding your home with energy you need.  Sleek style and energy conversation? Well, I’m sold.

And as an added bonus, it kind of looks like you’re playing a crossword puzzle too, which as a writer I love.

This table is the first of its kind, but plans are underway to create a bench, light, and flag pole as well. Check out more about it here and see more from its designer here.

World’s Most Sustainable Furniture

Legare Sustainable Tables

Yup, that’s what it claims, and after a little of my own research I feel good about passing that claim onto you. Legare Sustainable is made of Moso Bamboo, the most sustainable species of bamboo, which re-grows extremely quickly.  Even its amber finish is made through a non toxic process. You know I love green, so this collection is something I’m happy to have found and to be sharing with you.

Legare Sustainable Desks

Legare is known for being fun to assemble and has been around for awhile. They claim each piece can be assembled in less than 3 minutes with no tools required.  Hard to believe at first, but after checking out a brief video online it looks extremely easy, which is good because I don’t go well with putting things together. The Legare Sustainable Collection is a new addition to their product line-up, and includes a lot of desks and office solutions, as well as bookcases, media stands, and tables. Get yourself some of this eco-friendly modern furniture and feel good about more than the way it looks. I know I will once I break down and get myself that corner desk! Learn more about Legare.

10 Things Forbes Says You Should Buy Now

Things to Buy Before Recession Ends

I came across an interesting article today on Forbes.com.  It’s from a few months back but I think it’s still relevant now and definitely interesting.  The article was titled Top Ten Things To Buy Before The Economy Improves and included exactly that.

What does this have to do with you?  Well, interestingly enough furniture was among those things on the list.  What do you think? Have you gotten any great deals on furniture in recent months?

Rounding out the top 10 were :
-A House
-A Car
-A Vacation
-Children’s Toys
-High-dividend Stocks
-Laptops
-Diamonds
-Women’s Clothing
-Televisions

How many of these have you gotten deals on?  I want to hear all about it. Read the full article here.

Another Kind Of Sputnik Lamp

Sputnik

When I hear Sputnik Lamp I think of the retro modern piece that’s been adorning homes since the mid-century. I do not picture this. And there’s a good reason. This Sputnik was not designed to resemble the Sputnik Lamp I’m talking about, but instead the other Sputnik – the world’s first Earth-orbiting artificial satellite one. And that it does.

So besides its cool space-age look, why is it I like this lamps o much?  Well to start, its four antennae/light sabers can pivot into different positions so it’s almost customizable.  But mostly it’s because its base can be used as hidden storage. Something not even I expect from a lamp. Very cool.

This lamp was designed by Shane Crozier.
