There’s no denying that this lamp is cool.  It seems to just be called the Spiral Lamp, but I guess that’s a pretty appropriate name.  The Spiral Lamp is formed from a single sheet of laser cut material and is bent together, intermeshing with itself to form its intricate shape. This lamp is only a prototype, but it is for sale by its designer here.  According to the designer’s site, the Spiral Lamp explores the interaction between light and matter, and growing the complex from simple. I just know I like it.

I have to admit when I first saw these hanging lamps it was love at first sight but for all the wrong reasons.  I was initially drawn to them because I thought they resembled winter hats and I’m a big fan of all things warm and cozy.  As I usually do, I went to the designer’s site for more info only to discover that while I was right to love this lamp I was way off on what its inspiration was (see I admit when I’m wrong).

Called the Beata Light, this hanging lamp is supposedly reminiscent of a bees nest. It comes in a variety of natural tones that change colors when lit.  Well whatever you think it looks like; I think the Beata deserves some kind of recognition. Check out more from Pinch Design.

Wall stickers are totally in right now and whether you like it or not it looks like they are here to stay.  While I’ve blogged about this trend before, I bring it up again for good reason.  Blik brings us wall stickers that are a bit different than what we are seeing everywhere else and a little more relevant to fans of modern design like all of us. 

Above is the Classic Chair Backs decal designed by Dutch industrial designer Jan Habraken. It’s interesting to see something classic mixed with a modern application. Below is the Crosspatch Small that comes from the office of design legends Charles and Ray Eames, and well anything that comes from there is worth a look.

Six Different Ways is having acontest!!

We appreciate you reading our blog and we feel like it’s time we gave you something back.  So here is how it’s going to work:

1. You submit a picture of the ugliest room in your home. That’s right, I said ugly.  Now let me explain myself here.  I’m not implying any of you have ugly homes, but we all know we have at least one room in our homes that could use some work. And I’m sure there are even a few of us out there that have a room that’s just outright hideous. You can submit your images via a comment.
2. We will pick our favorites and post them– not to make fun but to get suggestions from other readers.  Six Different Ways will also offer our own opinions on how to improve your space.
3. Last but most important. The owner of the ugliest room will receive a set of Wallter Circles courtesy of Inmod (Yay Inmod for being cool and playing along).

Ok get those cameras out and start sending your pics.  I’ll be waiting!

In tribute to the fact that it’s currently 17 degrees here (yes I just checked weather.com) and I’m actually headed somewhere colder for the weekend (sounded like a good idea at the time) I bring you a portable fire place.  That’s right portable fire. When I first heard the idea, I pictured something really tacky. In fact, though, the Travelmate actually has a great modern look.

With the Travelmate, you decide not only when to light a fire but also where.  The fire can become the focal point of the room wherever it’s placed, like traditional stoves or fireplaces. Near the sofa, in the dining room, even outside.
