Chandelini

Chandelini

Who wants a martini? How about six dozen martinis?  That’s even too much for me, but apparently not too much for this spectacular lighting fixture.  Dubbed the Chandelini (how appropriate), this lamp is made of six dozen martini glasses and lit by a string of six watt candelabra-based bulbs.  The Chandelini is made by Touch Design Studio.  I’ve posted a couple of their pieces in the past, but every time I revisit their site I find something I like even more.  Be sure to check it out here.

Best of the gift show … Part 2

Megan Auman

I got to meet Megan at the Gift Show, and view some of her impressive work. Megan makes both steel jewelry and sculpture via a torch welding technique. Her collection is original, yet contemporary and functional.  I was most impressed by her pendant lamps, which are shown here.

Camilla House Imports

For me, this was one of the most memorable booths at this year’s gift show.  I think it’s the way that the pieces combine a classic look with modern accents and bright colors like the hot pink seen here.  Whatever it is, these pieces were truly stunning and I would love to get my hands on a few of them.

Paper Cloud

This assortment of handmade items offers a refreshing change of pace.  Simple and nature-inspired, the collection includes journals, pillows, lighting, and even apparel.  Again, I was most impressed with the lighting- beautifully simple yet adding something unique against the more modern look I’m used to.

Best Of the Gift Show … Part 1

I’m back from the gift show with some great things to share with you like I promised. Too many to fit in one day… so enjoy these for now and I’ll bring you even more tomorrow!

Gift Show 2009

I’ll let these fabulous pillows speak for themselves.  I immediately noticed them, and it turns out I’m not alone as they are available in some of the best department stores like Sakes, Neiman Marcs, and even Barneys.  Kevin himself is interesting though, so be sure to check out his site for info about the man behind these gorgeous creations.

Gift Show 2009

By now, we are all well aware that wall stickers are in. Not your average wall stickers though, these come from Paris and they’ve got the style to prove it. With a spectacular selection of designs for both adults and kids, checking out Les Invasiones Phermeres for yourself is a must.  They’ve gotten really creative too, with stickers for your phone, for your scooter (or bike I suppose) and even for the floor. Talk about a modern rug!

Gift Show 2009

I’m sure most of you have heard of Jonathan Adler before. At the show, he showcased a lot of great pieces, but it was the rugs that were most memorable to me. Pictured here are the Marrakesh Rug and the Peter Rug.

Gift Show 2009

Turns out I knew about Fermob before I found out about them. I know that doesn’t make sense, but here’s what I mean:  Fermob has been around for quite awhile with brilliant pieces like the ones pictured here, yet I’d never heard the word “Fermob” before. In fact, you may very well have seen their work as well. Fermob designed the chairs that are all over Bryant Park in NYC, so you may even have sat on a Fermob before. I did have the chance to sit in a Fermob, and they are surprisingly comfortable (I admit I wasn’t sure it would be, but I was very pleasantly surprised).

Perhaps My New Favorite Thing

Margaret Muir Bedding

I have a very hard time getting up in the morning. It has nothing to do with work or stress or illness though, my bed is just that damn comfortable. In fact, I’m thinking about it right now.  Here is something that just may make it even harder… a beautiful collection of bedding from Margaret Muir.

Margaret Muir Bedding

I’m very picky when it comes to bedding, but the nature-inspired patterns and overall simplicity of this collection is exactly what I love. I must admit I discovered this great talent via an Apartment Therapy email.  Yes, I too am a fan. I had to share this discovery with you though, because I am just that impressed. There doesn’t seem to be any stores in the US carrying this collection yet, but I hear it’s in the works.  I’ve contacted them to see if its available to us online somewhere… so I’ll keep you posted. See more here.

Phase Design

Wired Tables

Something different in the world of coffee tables. This Wired Coffee Table and Wired Side Table feature solid steel tubing with a solid walnut or solid oak top. I like the combination of the natural wood and the sleek look of the chrome, opposites that in this case work harmoniously together.  The top is also available in cork or fabric, even COM (your own material).

These tables come from Phase Design, a company started in LA in 2000 by designer Reza Feiz.  Reza aims to balance delicate physicality and practical functionality. He is committed to providing quality goods, all of which are manufactured here in the US. See more from Phase Design.

bella mobilia

Today’s trend seems to inadvertently be Italian designers, though so many good things come from Italy it’s not a hard trend to follow.

Whether you’re a fan of sofa beds or not, there’s no denying their convenience when an unexpected guest decides to drop by unannounced. Designed by Sergio Bicego for Saba Italia, this modern sofa folds out into a round bed.  Whether as a sofa or a bed, the Nesting Sofa has a great look.  What I also like about it, is that the two pieces that comprise the sofa can actually be folded out separately.  This might be nice just for lounging around in pretty spectacular style. See more from Saba Italia here.

Be sure to check back later this week for my finds from the New York International Gift Fair!
