Jennifer Anderson

Jennifer Anderson Chairs

Today I bring you some very interesting work from Jennifer Anderson.  The first image is part of her Material Series, in which Anderson created the same chair in five different materials. Shown here from left to right are mud, wax, and wood. Her collection also includes grass and bronze.    I think it is so interesting to see the emphasis placed on the material rather than the form, which is normally the first thing most of us look at.

Jennifer Anderson Mudd Chair

Anderson was very intrigued by the chairs she created in mud, so taking it a step further she decided to “remake” several modern classics (pictured here is Wegner’s Wishbone Chair). The focus this time was permanence/impermanence. On her website she does not go on to say what she means by this, but for me it proves the staying power of great design.  Even made in mud, this chair is distinctly Wenger and the fact that is made with mud doesn’t change that. Now how many designers can you say that about?  Pieces from the Mud Series are available for purchase by special order via Anderson’s website.

Tape!

Mark Khaisman Tapeworks

This is pretty amazing. Look closely and you’ll see that each of these brilliant pieces is made from tape! These wonderful images come from Mark Khaisman who describes his work as a conversation with light. Each of his projects is made from layer upon layer of packing tape (wow who thought that could be pretty!)

The top image is of Grab the Treasure and Run for Life Installation in Crane Arts, Philadelphia 2007 and the second is Series Adding Zeros, Vacant Show, Benoliel Gallery, Philadelphia 2007.  Prints of some of his work are available for sale for a very reasonable $200 – especially reasonable because each is made in a limited addition of 50. More of Khaisman’s genius here.

Can sloppy look neat?

Clothes Stand

This may be one of the simplest designs I’ve featured here, but I think it’s pretty genius.  The truth is that your favorite blogger is a slob – ok let me explain.  I clean like a fiend I mean you could probably eat of my bathroom floor (disclaimer – eww I would never actually do that no matter how clean but you get the idea), but for some reason when it comes to putting things away my brain just can’t handle it.  I throw my dirty clothes into piles and one look and my desk at work and you can tell what I’ve had to drink all week.  That’s why this is so genius to me, it makes messy organized.  You can fling your clothes onto it, yet is still looks somewhat organized. You can hang clean clothes, dirty clothes, laundry bags, jackets, whatever. Nice. More from designer Therese Glimskar here.

Air Tree

Air Tree

So as cool as it might be, it’s kind of impractical to have a tree inside. Fear not though, you can still enjoy perfectly cleaned air with the Air Tree. From designer Seung Jun Jeong, this modern “tree” cleans your air via a HEPA filter.  It sucks the air in, removes all of its impurities, and releases the refreshed air out from its top.  Definitely a good use paired with a modern look that almost makes it double as a sculpture. Throw in some cool LED lights and I’m sold.

Endless

Endless Lamp

You all know (or anyone who reads this blog regularly, anyway) how much I love products that are both functional and interactive.  Well for those of you who share my view, you are in for a treat today.  Take a good look at this lamp. Absolutely stunning.  Called The Endless Lamp, this one comes from designer Park Woo Sung. It combines the curves common in Korean design with the interactivity of letting you stack its pieces to create its design.

Endless Lamp

The other thing I like about the Endless Lamp is that while it is interactive, it isn’t overpowering. I can see this lamp working well in many different environments, and love its simple yet captivating design. See more from Park Woo Sung here.

Another Unique Rug

Petrol Rug

In keeping with yesterday’s theme, today I bring you another rug that is both fun and unique.  This one comes from designer Sylvain Willenz and is called Petrol. It is made of layers of machine-cut felt discs.  The rug’s pattern is both organic and random and cam be produced in infinite configurations. It can even look like it is following you down the hall like in the second image. See more wonderful work from Sylvain here.
