This one’s for the techies.  I’ve heard of FLOR before, but if you don’t know them they make carpet squares in a variety of fun designs that let you create your own unique rugs or “carpeting,” by putting the squares together. Cool idea, huh.

Today I came across a really cool design of theirs called Be My Neighbor.  They have actually taken an image from Google Earth and made it into carpet squares.  Google Earth has now inspired rugs and carpeting, amazing though cool.  I’m a fan. What do you think? See more here.

One day designer Philippe Malouin was sitting on a chair with casters when he rolled over a patch of dust, leaving tracks behind him. He was instantly inspired and set out to create a piece of furniture that would track its user’s behavior.  The Ballpoint Stool is the result, a transparent stool whose legs contain ink. As you move your patterns are traced enabling you to keep track of your movements or to draw in a whole new ways. See more here.

I’m all about technology, but I have to say even I think this is a bit much.  Karim Rashid (who don’t get me wrong I think is great) has introduced this chic tub with a built in TV!  I love the look of the tub, so modern and just waiting to be installed in the master bathroom I don’t have yet. But the TV is just a bit much don’t you think? I’m just curious to hear your thoughts – I’m sure there are plenty of people who would love to watch TV in the tub.

What do you think of this? New from Italian furniture company Edra, the Cipria Settee is defiantly the focal point of any room.  Designed by Fernando and Humberto Campana, this sofa recently made its debut at Salone Di Mobile Milano.  It’s definitely different, but at the same time I’d kind of like to be sitting on it right now. The Cipria features nine cushions and is covered in fake fur.

Have you heard of Julien Carretero?  I just recently came upon his work and was instantly intrigued. Among my favorites is his To Be Continued Series.  Consisting of a bench, coffee table, cabinet, and side board, the goal of this collection is to create recognizable uniqueness within a series that is being mass produced. Not random, it uses the repetitive actions of the process as a tool for differentiation. Each is produced as a result of a process applied on the piece before it and only exists because of it. Deep huh? Put more simply, each layer is casted on top of the one casted before it and following the exact line of it. Make sense?  It makes more sense visually than that description probably does. So take a good look at these images and you’ll see what I mean.

Is it a table or is it a lamp? The correct answer is lamp, although the shape of the lamp does resemble a table, which I found to be pretty amusing.  In fact I think it would be pretty interesting visually to use this table lamp on a table.  Appropriately called WoodenLegs, this lamp’s design combines two traditional materials and techniques- metal spinning and wood working.

This unique lamp comes from the mind and studio of Benoît Deneufbourg.  He creates furniture and objects that reinterpret classic functions while simplifying aesthetics and production technique. See more of his unique work here.
