Stephen Colbert to be cloned?

Stephen Colbert

Time to take a break from our love of modern furniture and discuss something else thought provoking. That something is really someone Stephen Colbert, who may just be the man who saves mankind. Ok well let’s hope it doesn’t come to that, but Colbert (who you know from The Colbert Report) is indeed sending his DNA to space.

“I am thrilled to have my DNA shot into space, as this brings me one step closer to my lifelong dream of being the baby at the end of ‘2001,’ ” Stephen Colbert.

 Stephen Colbert

Colbert’s DNA will be digitized and deposited at the International Space Station once its delivered by Richard Garriot (a video game designer with enough $$ to go on a private space mission). It will then be preserved so aliens can clone him should the human race ever become extinct.  A whole race of Stephen Colberts…. your thoughts please.

Enjoy Some Sushi

Sushi Day Bed

It’s hard not to love the Sushi Daybed. The Sushi Daybed makes the perfect addition to any backyard and just looking at it makes you want to relax. The Sushi Daybed is as green as it gets, made from rapidly-renewable hand-woven water hyacinth wrapped around a double rattan frame.

This product comes from PIE (Project Import Export). PIE was created by architect Bannavis Andrew Sribyatta in an effort to explore living space in relation to nature. PIE believes furniture should be an art form and has a great selection of unique, green products. Learn more about PIE Studio.

In the meantime, picture yourself relaxing on the Sushi Daybed, I know I am.

Forget Paint. Get Stickers!

dVider Sticker Branch

I’ve mentioned wall stickers quite a few times on here, but that’s because I think they just make so much sense.  Easy to apply to completely transform a room in minutes and simple to take off when you need a change. Much easier than painting too and with none of the mess. In fact, this may just be the most cost effective way to decorate too.  I recently came across the dVider brand of wall stickers, and was happy to see that just about the entire collection is in the $20-$50 price range.  They have tons of styles to choose from- there are nature-inspired designs, patterns, edgy art, figures, plenty for kids, and even holiday themes.

dVider Sticker Collection

dVider describes itself as “the young, delicious design studio”. While I’m not sure what exactly they mean by that, their collection includes something for just about every type of home, their designs are great, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to go get some of these stickers for myself. So whatever they are doing over in Brooklyn, they are doing it well.

Get Organized With Tetrad

Tetrad Flat Shelving

I must admit I’m a bit disorganized, but I think I may have found the solution. Check out these great shelving units from Tetrad. The blocks of the Tetrad can connect to each other, the wall, or placed around the room to form a custom configuration. With this great modern organization solution, there’s no reason for any of us not to get organized.

Angela Adams

Birch Morning Rug

Angela Adams has a unique collection of hand-tufted wool rugs with an array of modern designs. Most seem to feature something nature inspired or geometric, and each has its own great look that will find a way to enhance your home. Above is the Birch Morning rug and below is the Munjoy. See more of Angela’s work.

Munjoy Rug

All of Angela’s collection is made from 100% New Zealand wool and hand tufted in India by an affiliate of RugMark. Something defintatley worth saying a few words about, RugMark is an international nonprofit organization devoted to ending child labor in South Asia’s carpet industry. They build schools and offer programs and opportunities to children in an effort of helping each regain his or her childhood. Show your support.

Eames Designed What?

Eames Elephants

When you think Eames, there are probably a few things that come to mind- the Eames Lounge, the Eames Aluminum Group, the molded plastic chair collection-  but elephant probably isn’t one of them.  Well maybe it should be!

In the early 1940’s, Charles & Ray Eames developed a method for molding plywood into complex three-dimensional shapes. Out of this technique several pieces of furniture were born (you can probably think of a few of these), but also created was the Eames Elephant.  Never produced for sale, only two prototypes were created.

In 2007 Vitra decided to honor this work by introducing a limited edition anniversary of the Eames Plywood Elephant, which quickly sold out. As demand to own this unique design from Eames continued, Vitra is again offering a version of the design, this time in five colors of polypropylene. If you want one though, you better act fast as these too are limited in production to 1000 pieces in each color.
