The Angle Chair is intriguing from all angles. Designed by designer and artist Julian Mayor, the Angle Chair is a unique modern seating piece made from recycled honeycomb boards.

Initially, the Angle Chair was created from the map of a person’s seat. The map was then digitized on the computer and sectioned out to create a graphic model. Each Angle Chair is then created from a 3D model and is a numbered edition.

Since Halloween is this weekend, we wanted to bring some festive Fall decor to the blog. Aren’t these pumpkin – look – a – likes perfect?

What you see above is the Large Wood Veneer Globe and below is the Small Wood Veneer Globe. Both are manufactured by Shiner International, a modern eco-friendly furniture company based out of Atlanta, Georgia. Shiner is named after a black eye proudly received by the owner at the age of seven.

Both of the Wood Veneer Globes from Shiner International are made from wood veneer over lexan, birch plywood and hardwood dowels. These two images are shown in walnut and red oak, but they are also available in walnut and birch. The large lamp is 34″ in diameter with a 22″ height, and the small is 26″ diameter with a 21′ height.

Both the Large Wood Veneer Globe and the Small Wood Veneer Globe are awesome modern light fixtures. I love how they resemble pumpkins, but work all year long. Best of all, they won’t get smashed like real pumpkins on Halloween!

Yesterday I stumbled upon the website of Timothy Schreiber, a designer based out of London. Although I couldn’t find a biography on his website, there is a Wikipedia page about Timothy Schreiber, which states that he has won three Red Dot Design Awards throughout his career.

Take a look at Timothy Schreiber’s website to see all of the “pop modernist” furniture he designs. Above is the S-08 Bench, designed by Schreiber. It is made out of clear section of colored acrylic. Each piece of acrylic is fixed upon two flexible guides that you can see through the acrylic. This mechanism allows you to create the bench as you please, with various colors, lengths and even shapes.

Another piece from Schreiber’s collection is the X-Lounger. The X-Lounger is based on a single ray that is traced along a double curve surface so that it achieves a “random looking yet controlled construction pattern.” Available in satin aluminum or malaysian rattan, the X-Lounger is just one of many contemporary pieces on Schreiber’s website, which is definitely worth checking out.

Lounge arrround in the Rrround Chair – designed by Arttu Kuisma and Janne Melajoki. Students at Lahti University of Applied Sciences in Finland, Kuisma and Melajoki won the Finnish design competition for young designers – Habitare.

Habitare is offered to young design students to give them an opportunity to get their work viewed before graduating. The theme of this year’s Habitare contest was to create a seat that was suitable for public spaces and also made of recycled material.

To achieve the theme’s requirements, Arttu Kuisma and Janne Melajoki created Rrround – a round seating arrangement made out of 250 square meters – or 2690 square feet – of recycled carpet. Kuisma and Melajoki used carpet that had been displayed in exhibitions, as such carpet is typically thrown away after the exhibition.

The scheme of Rrround can be altered by using different textures and colors of recycled carpet. Kuisma and Melajoki are currently working out manufacturing for the Rrround.

Designed by Louisa Kwan, the Loopie is an interesting modular seating arrangement. Inspired by observations of people within waiting rooms, Louisa Kwan designed Loopie to be a flexible way to sit. The unique design of Loopie allows people to sit facign whichever way they please. Little ones can even crawl through it – provided they can fit!

Made of soft foam, the Loopie is plush and comfortable to rest upon. Drawing from its original inspiration, the Loopie is perfect for waiting rooms and lobbies of any kind, from a doctor’s office to a hotel lobby. Our only suggestion is to be careful getting loopy on the Loopie – you don’t want to fall off!

Designed by Harry Thaler, a goldsmith studying design in London, England, the Pressed Chair is as light as a feather. In fact, this  chair is so incredibly light that it can be held with just one finger! Made of a single sheet of 2.5 mm aluminum, the Pressed Chair receives its strength from the decorative indents pressed into the chair.

The minimal materials used in the Pressed Chair make it environmentally friendly; it is 100% recyclable and produces no waste throughout the manufacturing process. On Harry Thaler’s website, it is written about the Pressed Chair that the “value of design excels in the intent of creating a piece out of one single material without any joints or connectors.”
