How cool is this? First, it offers a very interesting juxtaposition of a French provincial style and clean lines characteristic of modern design.  Second, all the parts fit together like a puzzle to reveal a second design. And it has a cool (and very appropriate) name – Alter Ego. I don’t have much else to say just take a few moments to admire this brilliant design.

The Vanity Table features a top with slots designed to fit the most popular magazine cover sizes. This innovative light is designed to mimic a dandelion. Not only its fun shape, but also the way in which it “works”.  The Secret of Light can be turned on by shaking it.  To turn it off, blow on it as you would a dandelion’s petals. What’s really cool is that you can turn as many or as few petals as you want to adjust the amount of light.

Genius design.  PowerPOST is only in the concept stage but I think it’s really going to be big.  In fact, it already earned a reddot design award.

PowerPOST functions as as the fourth leg of a desk, while providing plenty of space to plug in all of your necessary electronics without the mess of wires under your desk. It’s also eco conscious, by merging two objects into one and thus lowering consumption. I think this is absolutely brilliant. See more here.

Social networking sites are bigger than ever (check out our Facebook page!), and once again our addiction to them has inspired items for the home. This time, I think they may have gone too far, but I’ll let you be the judge.

The first is the Share Trash Can.  Imagine throwing out your garbage with the same enthusiasm you hit that share button with!  There’s even an LED counter that keeps track of the number of times you step on the foot petal.  Now if only this could upload event details to Facebook so people would know what I was throwing in the garbage (no, not serious).

While I think this next item is a little much, I can’t help but think it’s also kind of cool.  You know those three annoying minutes that you stare at your microwave waiting for your soup/leftovers/hot pocket ?  Never again will you spend them bored.  Though it’s only a concept, the inventor of the CastOven has created the perfect synthesis of a microwave and YouTube. Yup, You Tube.   When you put your lunch inside and set the timer, the CastOven instantly finds a random YouTube clip approximately the same length of time your food will take and plays it on the screen.  Crazy or genius?

Here’s a little preview of the Stalac Coffee Table, which caught my attention earlier today. This eye-catching table is being debuted at the Interior Design Show in a few weeks, so consider this a sneak preview! This table comes from The Practice of Everyday Design, a new partnership founded in 2009 with a focus on installation art, architecture, and product design.

The Stalac Table is based on the idea of taking a rectangular section from a cave ceiling, with the stalactites being the table legs. What a cool concept!

The Toronto 2010 Interior Design Show runs January 21-24 and is open to the public on the 23^rd and 24^th.  Definitely take a look for yourself if you are in the Toronto Area!
