Product Pick: Concrete Palmas Vases

Most of the time, I find myself partial to concrete items within home decor and accessories because my fiance works in the concrete industry and its fascinating to see all of the different ways it can be used.

So when I saw these Concrete Palmas Vases on Design Milk, I couldn’t resist sharing them. As stated in the initial post, these vases are made from a hand-folded origami mold which is then filled with the concrete. The paper is pulled away once the concrete is dry, making the mold a one-time use. I just can’t believe that such detail is achieved with a paper mold.

I love the sleek spikes of the design, and would store my flowers in these vases any day. What about you?

Gorgeous Spaces: Bright with Brick

I came across this brightly decorated room last week on Desire to Inspire. I’m loving the bright yellows and pinks and how they are paired with the contrasting brick walls and exposed wood ceiling.

It’s a dreary day and those yellow cabinets make everything better! I can’t imagine ever being in a miserable mood with all of those vibrant colors around. What do you think of this room? Too bright or just right?

Painting Day

Today I’ll be this girl. Except I won’t be painting the walls red, and hopefully I’ll know what I’m doing. I volunteered to help my fiance out and paint the first coat in our ever-evolving basement while he’s at work, and since I’ve never painted before – I’m a little nervous!

To make sure I don’t mess things up for him, I did a little research this morning that I’m going to share, in case you ever find yourself in a similar situation. Although the tips are relatively simple and probably common knowledge for some, they can surely be helpful to the newbie painter. [Such as myself – I had no idea I should paint under the molding first!] So here they are, from Sleekhome.com:

Step-by-Step Instructions to Painting Your Walls

Step 1: If you are painting your ceilings as well as your walls, paint the ceiling first. Allow them to dry for at least 24 hours. If you are only painting the walls, go to Step 2.

Step 2: Using your painter’s tape, cover the edge of the ceiling to prevent splattering and protect the trim.

Step 3: Now cover the baseboards and whatever trim not being painted with tape.

Step 4: Paint a 2-inch strip with a small brush along the top of the wall–where the wall and ceiling join.

Step 5: Immediately paint over the cut-in with your roller to keep the paint from drying and leaving a line on the wall.

Step 6: Apply paint to the wall in square-sized sections. With an up and down and across motion, apply a generous coat of paint to the wall. This style will prevent lines when the paint dries.

Step 7: Once the first coat has dried apply another coat.

Repeat the above steps for all walls that need to be painted.

Have you painted before or will be in the near future??

Weekly Six: 10.5.12

Happy Friday!

I can’t believe it’s already Friday, and already October. It seems the weeks go by faster and faster as each one passes. But, hey, I’m not complaining that the weekend is here! Hope you have something fun planned! Here is this week’s weekly six:

1 – Glitter + Champagne = two of my favorite things!

2 – This is the perfect shade of gray.

3 – A handful of delicious pizza recipes – always easy and delicious!

4 – Love this rug from new store Lulu & Georgia.

5 – A magnetic coffee table that can be made into whatever your heart desires.

6 – Pitch Perfect is a must-see. Seriously.

Wardrobes

I need a new wardrobe. I wish that meant the kind of wardrobe that is the entire inventory of clothing. But what I need is the kind of wardrobe that will store all of those clothes! In my case, the wardrobe will be downstairs in the basement, and not a part of my decor in any of the bedrooms, but I wouldn’t mind if it was.

Whether colorful or just plain white, the wardrobes above look pretty sleek in their settings. Plus, they’re keeping everything organized so I think that attributes to their clean look. A major thing of wardrobes is having the space for them – its not like a closet that is built into the wall – so you have to make sure you have the extra room needed for one. In the last two images above, it appears that both rooms have two wardrobes arranged next to each other, which I think would be a nice look to take up a whole wall. This way, you don’t have a single wardrobe sticking out somewhere!

What do you think of wardrobes? Do you have one?

Product Pick: Intertwined Chairs

These inventive chairs were featured on Contemporist the other day and I love their simplicity that is enhanced by the fun intertwined legs.

Designed by Kan and Lau Designs, each chair has a different finish but they complement one another. These chairs would be perfect in a hallway or even at the end of a dining table for a sweet couple that likes to eat dinner sitting next to each other!

What do you think of the Intertwined Chairs?
