International Contemporary Design (ICD) has an incredible collection of furniture pieces made from solid teak root logs and natural suarina hardwood giving them an ultra-modern look with a rustic twist. Making a gratitude list is a daily practice for some, but in the spirit of thanksgiving you can create your own gratitude list to celebrate the holiday. Writing a gratitude list creates an uplifting and joyous feeling, it allows us to remember that no matter how difficult life can be, we always have something to be grateful for and to be appreciative of. Gratitude lists when practiced regularly can help shape a better attitude and outlook on life because it gives us tangible evidence of our little and of our big victories.

Start your gratitude list by quietly sitting down with a writing tool and a piece of paper. Each item you are grateful for should be written out in full sentence that begins with “I’m grateful for…” or “I’m grateful that…” and ending with “because…,” then state the reasons why you are grateful for that particular person, place or thing. I find the “because” portion of the list extremely important because it requires you to think about the reasons you feel grateful. Your list can consist of specific things like the beautiful sunrise when you first awake in the morning, your job that provides you with the income to live, your sister who is always there for you or your list can consist of more abstract ideas like the ability to communicate well with others, courage and open-mindedness.

Gratitude makes it easier for us to feel less envious of what others have, it helps us live within our means and to be generous towards others. If you are ready to begin creating gratitude lists, thanksgiving is the perfect time to begin your journey to a happier and more satisfied way of life.

Grounds for Sculpture is 42-acre public sculpture garden located in Hamilton, New Jersey and one of my all-time favorite photography spots.  The park was created in 1984 and opened in 1992 by sculptor and founder J. Seward Johnson who hoped to bring audiences from all different backgrounds together in an informal setting to experience contemporary artwork. The park exhibits over 270 works, including sculptures by renowned artists including Clement Meadmore, Anthony Caro, Beverly Pepper, Kiki Smith, and New Jersey sculptor George Segal.

Exploring the grounds is like walking through a whole other world.  Some of the modernist sculptures are interactive and are surrounded by manicured landscapes. While a wide array of others are sculptural recreations of impressionist paintings. One of my favorite features of the park is the majestic peacocks that freely roam the grounds.

Grounds for Sculpture is truly a magical experience and a wonderful place to gain inspiration.

The symbol of the yin yang originates from Chinese philosophy but has made its way to the western world in both conceptual and concrete forms.  The yin yang represents the opposite forces that are interconnected and can therefore live harmoniously among one another. The natural dualities of this world such as male and female, light and dark, fire and water are physical expressions of the yin yang concept.   These opposing forces exist because of their counterpart and in turn are not opposing forces but work together as one dynamic system. This innate truth can be brought into your life as a daily reminder by placing a material representation of this concept in your home décor. Simply put, there are endless home furnishings that are made in the form of a yin yang and will add a touch of harmony to your living space.
