You know what time it is!

You know what time it is! Although it may not seem like spring is here for some of us, we can definitely make it feel like it is! We all know that this time of year brings in a feeling of freshness, new beginnings and warmth. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and we finally could see grass again! Although we are happy to greet spring, most people don’t look forward to spring cleaning as much as they do the other things that are associated with the season. I have discovered that it really doesn’t have to be a chore, as a matter of fact, it could be fun! Also, I found these to be really pocket friendly – which is an area we don’t like to clean out, ever. Yet another reason to love pinterest! Here are six different ways to bring in spring!

REORGANIZE! It is on the top of everyone’s lists for spring cleaning. Be it clothes, paperwork, books or toys – everything has a place, or at least it should.  A great way to organize is utilizing storage cubes. They’re inexpensive, and come in some really fun colors. You could mix and match to your preference. They definitely add some order and style to your space!  I like to use the pink and white cubes for the spring, and switch out the pink with the different colored cubes depending on the season! The cubes pictured are stackable, and be can used to create various designs and color patters to complement almost any décor. Essential for spring!!

RECYCLE! There are so many different ways to add spring to your space. I like this one in particular, because nothing says spring like a colorful arrangement of fresh flowers. I like to keep them by my entry way, so when guests arrive they’re greeted by a plethora of colors and pleasant scents! Believe it or not- this lovely lavender planter is actually a plastic juice bottle. This was another great Pinterest find. All that was needed for this project was a plastic juice bottle, glue, paint, glitter, foam brush, paint brush, and X-Acto knife. This is great for arts and crafts classes, as it is not only budget friendly, but beautiful and eco-friendly!

RESTORE! It may be your first thoughts to toss out that old dresser that you inherited from mom, grandma, your uncle’s mailman, etc. Rethink that for a second, and take a look at the awesome restoration done to this mid century piece. All that was needed for this masterpiece to come to life was a little time and ingenuity, and a couple of bucks. This particular project called for sanding, two coats of primer, two coats of high gloss enamel paint, and Modern Century Legs and a handle. The pop of turquoise color just brings so much life to it and screams “spring!” – Especially when paired with the next item! This project cost under $50.00, and will definitely last longer than one spring! Here you have a statement piece that will be around for years to come. Now that’s an investment worth making.

REFRESH! Nothing captures the heart of the season like a beautiful bouquet of flowers. As I mentioned before, I like to keep fresh flowers around the house. (These would look great on that newly restored modern piece!) They bring so much life into a room, plus there are so many different color schemes and combinations to choose from! Pictured is one of my favorite DIY projects, a mason jar vase. The mason jar can be substituted with any type of jar, any style, any color. I like this combination in particular because of the way the crispness of the light turquoise complements the pink hues of the floral arrangements. Again, this is something that will cost you less than $10.00. It won’t cost you a thing if you have a garden at home, and some spare jars! I love my rose garden, it’s fun to maintain and always yields the most beautiful results. I highly recommend starting your garden if you haven’t already.

REDECORATE! After you have cleared your space, organized a bit, and hopefully restored a fun piece, it’s time to add some final touches to your spring home makeover! You do not have to spend a fortune to achieve a fresh new look for the season. This can be done for little to nothing. The hot pink chevron accent pillows pictured are only $13.00 a piece on Etsy. Alternatively, if you have a fun patterned article of clothing that needs to retire, and you’re handy with a needle and thread, you can design your own! Pinterest and Youtube offer tons of tutorials, you can’t go wrong! Aside from sprucing up your living room or bedroom with these, you can definitely expand into other rooms with different items to add some spring to your décor. Try getting some fun colored hand towels for the bathroom, or patterned plates for the kitchen!

RECLAIM! Modern design boasts brilliant reclaimed wood pieces – anything from coffee tables to beds. This has been a trend for some time now. If you don’t want to make the commitment to a large piece like a table or bed, have a spring fling with an old piece wood. You might have some lying around – which would be ideal. Alternatively, you could always go to your local arts and crafts store and achieve a similar look. In addition to the wood, purchase a stencil, some bright paint and choose an inspirational quote, lyric or word to write on the wood. When you’re done, you’ll have a fun, fresh, creative wall piece to bring light and inspiration into your space!

So now that you have accomplished so much, in such little time and for close to nothing – I think it’s time to celebrate! Stop and smell the roses…enjoy!
