Jeweled Frame Inspiration

Do you ever have an idea of something in your head but you don’t know how to execute it? This is something that’s driving me crazy right now!

I have this idea for jeweled picture frames to use at our wedding to display table numbers. I figure making them myself will be less expensive, but I can’t figure out exactly what I want to do. I love the idea of vintage brooches and costume jewelry, but I know that could get expensive quickly. I found an Etsy show that has tons of Swarovski crystals with flat backs, that aren’t too expensive and I think mixing those with pearls might be what I’m looking for. But then there’s the idea of those flat back marbles you find in the bottom of vases – those are inexpensive and have a nice sparkle to them.

To help myself figure this all out, I created the moodboard above with some ideas. Which is your favorite? Do you have any insight as to how I can recreate these looks on my own without breaking the bank??

Glittery Christmas Ornament DIYs

Next week, I’m having a few girlfriends over to decorate Christmas ornaments. We got together in the Fall to decorate pumpkins and we were all about the glitter. To get ready for next week, I’ve been looking for sparkling DIY ornaments that we can complete in one night while chatting and sipping on some wine.

Although we can easily take clear or colored ornaments and just cover them in glitter, I wanted something that forces us to be a bit more creative. Here’s what I’ve found so far: Tinsel Snowflakes, Snow-Capped Ornaments and No-Mess Glitter Ornaments.

I love the idea of the Tinsel Snowflakes because each of us can cut out whatever we please from cardboard and cover it in immense amounts of glitter. The snow capped ornament are perfect for when we’re feeling too lazy to cover the entire ornament in glitter – plus it gives a nice look! And the no-mess ornaments – I love how you get the glitter look without worrying about finding glitter all around the house from Christmas to the 4th of July. This DIY uses wood cleaner, but I also saw one that used hairspray on the inside of the ornament. I’m wondering if paint would work as well!

Do you have any glittery DIYs for us to use at our Ornament Party? Please share!

Brown & Gold Christmas Inspiration

For the past two years, I’ve done a bright white fake tree with a variety of pinks, blues, and greens. Last year, my fiance dealt with it as it was our first Christmas living together. This year, he put his foot down and made me a get a real tree, which I’m glad he did. It’s the fattest tree I’ve ever seen. So fat – that I needed two 30 ft ribbons to wrap around from top to bottom!

Anyway, after we cut the tree down, we were standing in Walmart, gawking at ornaments, and made a quick decision to completely change our color scheme, rather than reusing the brightly colored ornaments from the past two years. Since he loves brown and I love gold, our decision was easy to make. Before I decorated the tree, I needed some inspiration – thus, the collage above. I miss my bright colors and their modern feel, but it was fun to switch things up this year. I’ll share how the tree came out later this week!

What color scheme did you decorate with this year?

A Beautiful Christmas Tree for Under $75

I didn’t realize how expensive it can be to buy and decorate a Christmas tree until I went out shopping all weekned yesterday and put all of the receipts together at the end of the day! The only places I went were Target, Walmart and Home Depot, but somehow I managed to spend well over $125. We did cut down our own tree, which was much more expensive than the tree above, found at Lowes for 19.98!

Another reason I spent so much money is because we decided to change our color scheme this year from bright and colorful to brown and gold, so I purchased new ornaments at Walmart – 41 for about $9. To help others from spending too much on a tree as I did this weekend, I’ve put together a nice red, gold and green scheme for under $75!

Here’s what I put together:

1 – Tree Topper – $5

2 – Red Ribbon (to wrap around the tree) – $4.98

3 – 5 – 6ft Fresh Tree – $19.98

4 – 50 Ornaments – $15.00

5 – Tree Stand – $18.00

6 – Tree Skirt – $5

Grand Total: $67.98

I know I could go cheaper – but I love a matching, sparkling tree!

What decoration bargains have you found this season??
