Infinite USB

Anyone can appreciate smart product design, and the Infinite USB is just that.  My laptop has 2 USB ports and sometimes it’s just not enough.  Apparently others agree or at least designer Gonglue Jiang did.

With Infinite UBS each plug is also a port, so there’s no limitation on how much tech you can use at one time. This project is already getting plenty of attention so hopefully this will be available soon.  It has already won a 2010 IF Concept award. Learn more about this cool concept and talented design here.

Whilst it is a nice idea, in practice it won’t take off.

Each USB connector you see there would have to include a tiny USB hub. Equipment manufacturers tend to go with the cheapest option available when it comes to cables and accessories. It would also be annoying because every time you plug it in windows would detect a new USB hub and spend a few seconds installing the drivers for it; then would have to detect your device and sort the drivers for that.

Perhaps you could sell a few after market ones that would connect to standard micro / mini / USB A / B plugs on the other end, but many devices have non-standard connectors or moulded cables at the other end.
